Madonna is 24 years old and is from Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi. She lives with her mother, brothers and nephew. She runs a small business selling oil and sugar to meet her needs. She explains with borders closing, sourcing things for her business has become expensive. Before the pandemic, she spent her time going to the market to buy things for her business, chatting with friends and fulfilling her duties as a Jehovah Witness.

“I think if Corona discontinues then I’m of the view that it can help me to meet my aspirations but if Corona continues, that is if things will change in the impending rainy season, then it’s difficult. I’m saying this because mind you borders get closed. Right now they’re open but you don’t have the money to grow your business. It’s hard, right? But, I meant after harvesting properly, that is after selling the crop we’ve planted then we’ll use that one to boost our business, that’s what I want. But if Corona continues then it will be hard to fulfil these aspirations.”
