To mark International Day of the Girl and celebrate the launch of Chhaa Jaa in India, Girl Effect was delighted to meet TV personality and senior journalist Faye D’Souza at Sophia College in Mumbai for a discussion on how technology and media can unlock opportunities for adolescent girls.
Chhaa Jaa (Go Forth and Shine) is Girl Effect’s digital brand designed to empower adolescent girls in India to make informed decisions about their future – from accessing information about sexual and reproductive health, to negotiating with parents about choices for their education, or preparing to find a first job.
With an audience of college students, Faye D’Souza led an interactive discussion with Girl Effect CEO, Jessica Posner Odede, and Girl Effect’s India Lead, Kanishk Kabiraj, about our vision for Chhaa Jaa, the reality for girls in India as they become women and the choices girls experience in adolescence.
“India has the largest population of adolescent girls in the world, to be able to educate them will actually change an entire generation and perhaps the country as well” – Faye D’Souza
“We want to tell adolescent girls in India is that they can aspire to be something and they can imagine a future where they have a choice” – Jessica Posner Odede
Thank you to Faye for leading such a powerful discussion about opportunities for girls in India and to our wonderful audience at Sophia College for joining us to support the launch of Chhaa Jaa!
