Girl Effect’s pioneering programme in partnership with iSON Group, Girls Connect, has been nominated for a Global Mobile Award (GLOMO) in the Social Good ‘Best Mobile Innovation for Women in Emerging Markets’ category.
The GSMA’s Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO Awards) recognise and celebrate all contributions made to the evolving and developing mobile industry, and new levels of ingenuity, innovation and achievement.
The winner of The Social Good category will be announced on Tuesday 27th February in Barcelona during this year’s acclaimed Mobile World Congress.
Combining the power of storytelling with one-to-one support, Girls Connect is a first of its kind mobile innovation for girls in Northern Nigeria. The service allows girls to listen to pre-recorded stories about girls’ lives, before being connected to a “role model”. These role models, specially-trained iSON call centre operatives answer girls’ questions and talk through what she has heard to help make it meaningful and relevant to her own life.
This year, Girls Connect will expand state-wide across Kano, Edo and Oyo.
