Springster is up for a prestigious award celebrating the very best of the global branding industry.
Girl Effect’s mobile community is shortlisted in the Not For Profit category of the Brand Impact Awards, which attracted nearly 200 entries from around the world.
Springster is a digital community where girls access information, comment on stories, participate in polls, and surveys so that they’re able to make better decisions in their lives.
Springster provides a safe and secure environment for girls to raise their voice and share their experiences with other girls.
Design agency DesignStudio, which worked with Girl Effect to create Springster’s brand identity in 2016, has put the brand forward as ‘a mindset that can be shared by girls everywhere.
‘To appeal to girls all over the world, we took inspiration from the one borderless language people can all relate to – emojis. Our logo is a welcoming gesture and a powerful symbol to unite girls everywhere.’
Springster’s brand identity was created after workshops and research held in Colombia, Nigeria, the Philippines and Pakistan. The identity involved developing the creative proposition ‘it’s in our hands’ to show a new generation of girls taking control of their own futures.
In the past year alone Springster has reached nearly 16m users and is one of Facebook Free Basics’ top five most visited sites. Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook said in a post on the social giant: ‘Springster is special. I’m so inspired by the Girl Effect team for showing us how technology and storytelling can give girls confidence – and drive a new generation of them to take on the world.’
One 15-year-old Philippine user, Eliza, said: ‘I’m really grateful for Springster, because since I heard about it, it helped me understand the things I’m confused about and improve myself.’
The Brand Impact Awards will be presented at a ceremony on September 6.
